Twitter vs. Threads - My Two Cents

Published by Azat Akmyradov

Wow, what a day! Threads, the new text-sharing platform by Meta, has blown up big time, gaining 50 million users in just 24 hours. As a web developer, I'm stoked to see something different out there. But I'm not sure if Threads is here to stay or if it's just a shiny new toy for folks still figuring out how they feel about Elon Musk buying Twitter. So here's my take on why Threads might not end up replacing Twitter.

Home Tab - A Hot Mess

Who thought it would be a good idea to clutter up my home page on Threads with posts from people I don't follow or don't even know? It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack - I'm losing the posts I want to read in a flood of random content. What's the point of following people if their threads don't stand out?

Search Tab - Too Basic

I get that Threads is a new kid on the block, and yeah, it's fast and mostly reliable (minus that one time it crashed). But let's be real, Meta is no small startup - they've got the resources to make this work. At the very least, they should have the trending topics in the Search tab so we know what's up in the world. That's way better than a Home tab filled with a mishmash of stuff I couldn't care less about.

But hey, I think Threads does have a fighting chance against Twitter, especially with Twitter's recent weird decisions about rate limits and all that API stuff for third-party apps. It's a nice change, and there's a lot of buzz with people getting involved. But, if that buzz dies down, Threads might just end up as another forgotten idea in Meta's pile of past flops.
